The Story of
Seth and Jen
|
It all started in
July of 2002. Jen was in the Epsilon chapter of the Lamda Delta
Sigma sorority. Seth was in the Delta chapter of the Sigma Gamma
Chi fraternity. Delta and Epsilon had an exchange one morning-
breakfast in Big Cottonwood canyon at a picnic ground called Ledgemere.
This is when and where Jen officially met Seth. Seth and his
friend Bug had to find a ride home as theirs had left early. and
they had, but Seth thought it would be more fun if Jen gave them a ride
home and she was more than willing.
It was the next week that they went on their first date. Seth was
at a sneak preview for "The Crocodile Hunter Movie" when Jen called him,
but he called her back after the movie and they made plans for her
sorority date night the very next day.
Their first date went very well. A few days later Seth decided to
take Jen up on her offer to go country dancing early in the morning and
be on TV. Seth taught Jen lots of cool lifts and they got on
camera! After dancing Seth was talking about going to the Llama
Fest and Jen mentioned that she was going to be in Lake Powell.
"Well, you should stay home from Lake Powell and go to the
Llama Fest," Seth told Jen. So Jen replied (hopeful, but
jokingly), "Maybe you should skip the Llama Fest and go to Lake Powell!"
"Hmmm, that's not a bad idea, I've never been to Lake Powell."
So, they confirmed plans for Seth to come to Lake Powell and the
next day Seth invited Jen to watch a movie with him at his friend
John-David's house.
Lake Powell has proved to be a magical place for the two of them.
There were a lot of firsts on that trip. First experience
cliff diving, first experience with wave runners, first experience
kneeboarding, first kiss. Jen will tell you that Seth sure took
his time getting to it. There were times when she didn't think he
even liked her. Seth liked to take his time with decisions like
this to be sure that it was a good decision. The second night
there they were laying under the stars just enjoying the sky and talking
into the wee hours of the night. It was then that Seth finally
kissed Jen (after nuzzling noses for at least 45 minutes due to Seth's
lack of conviction!!!). They were twiterpated for months after (It
was actually kind of disgusting if you ask onlookers, but they didn't
really care they were just happily in love!).
The story get's complicated after that. We won't go into that
here. Suffice to say the relationship was very unique. It
took Seth a long time to realize that he was in love with Jen. It
took breaking up at least three times and dating an old (girl)friend for
a couple of weeks.
The change was very sudden. Seth had an epiphany one day and
realized that he was in love with Jennifer and wanted to marry her.
Things happened very strangely from that point. The next day
he had a conversation with the old (girl)friend that he was still
dating. He really had no intentions of breaking up with her, but
she felt like he was. He tried to stop her from thinking in such a
way, but she was persistant and he felt like it would be better that
way. It was that very night that Seth and Jen made yet another
trip to Powell. On the drive down they were just good friends who
had dated once. They talked about Seth's breakup earlier that day
and Jen's relationship sagas from the night before...good times.
That very night Seth told Jen the realization of his feelings and
what his intentions were. Jen was in shock, but once she realized
that it wasn't a dream and that it was really happening, she got very
excited. She had known all along that this was to be the case, but
was just waiting for Seth to realize it.

/As of that night at Lake Powell (July
31, 2003), Seth and Jen were unofficially engaged. It wasn't until
August 23rd that they made things official. Jen's birthday was
August 25th and the previous year Seth had started a tradition of
celebrating a birthWEEK for Jen instead of just a birthDAY. Seth
started the birthday week on the 22nd this year. That just so
happened to be the day he picked up the ring. Jen was expecting
him to propose to her the whole week so she made sure she looked cute
every day so she could be adoreable for the big moment. Little did
she know that he didn't even have the ring until Friday. On
Friday, Seth left work a little early. He went to Jen's house and
went into her room to put some stars on her ceiling. Then went
home to meet Jen as they were supposed to be going to a "Lonestar"
concert. Seth decided to wait for the new day (just after
midnight) to take Jen home to see her suprise. By that time Jen
had given up on the idea that Seth would propose that night.
When they got home Seth went into Jen's room to
make sure everything was ready while Jen was in the bathroom. When
he entered the room he found that half the stars he had put up earlier
were all laying on Jen's bed. He put them back up until she came
back in the room. Luckily, since she had given up on the idea of
Seth proposing since they were at her house and it was after midnight,
Jen decided to put on her pajamas. So she left the room again and
Seth was able to finish putting the stars on the ceiling. She came
back in and sat on the bed. As they were talking, one of the stars
fell and hit Jen on the shoulder. This was a mishap that Seth was
definitely not prepared for. So he had her close her eyes while he
charged up the stars with a lamp, so they would glow brightly, and
grabbed the ring that was strategically hidden in her room, then he
turned off the light and knelt next to her bed. He told Jen to
open her eyes again and she looked up to see the words "Will you marry
me?" written in stars on her ceiling. She was completely
surprised. Seth then asked her, "will you be my everything?"
Of course she said yes and they embraced. A few minutes
later Seth completed the question-popping process with a funny cheesy
line: "See, it's meant to be. It's written in the stars." |
